The great Ethiopian runner Abebe Bikila won the 1960 Olympic Marathon in Rome with feet al fresco.  Chris McDougall's best seller, Born to Run, has brought barefoot running back to center stage.  The Independent looks at some reactions to the barefoot running concept espoused by McDougall after his research with the Tarahumara tribe in Mexico.
