In 2007, Bernard Lagat fulfilled one dream. He became a U.S. citizen. Now, he is "all in" to make the USA Olympic Team once again but this time to win Olympic Gold in the 5000m. He will have his hands full with the University of Oregon hometown favorite Galen Rupp. Although Lagat has beaten Rupp eight (8) straight times, it's Rupp who comes in with high expectations of a Trials 5000m win.
ARA's Steve Nearman and Dave Watt met up with Bernard Lagat at Wednesday June 27th's off-day in Eugene to ask Lagat about his focus and plans in the 5000m Mens Final on Thursday evening at Hayward Field.
Onc thing is certain, Bernard Lagat realizes at 37 years of age that he cannot rely on a devasting kick of earlier track days. That does not mean that Bernard still can't run a last 1:51 to 1:53 800m in the 5000m.
Check out our interview. You'll learn that Lagat has a special interest in another 5000m competitor in the Finals:
