Just in time for the launch of Today's
Caregiver magazine and caregiver.com's "Summer of Respite
2007", our sixth annual extravaganza where we talk, share and
celebrate respite with one another throughout the summer, there
seems to be much to report about on the Respite front.
We celebrate Jill Kagan and her merry band of Respite Warriors
on their successful crusade to get the Lifespan Respite Care Act
signed into law late last year. The battle is not yet won
since your legislators need to ensure the proper funding of the
new law. Please visit their site to find out how your help
is still desperately needed.

Also, there seems to be a study out of the UK which talks about
the value of respite to caregivers, unfortunately they do not
seem to see much. Yet, there are competing studies with
differing results that the care experts are debating on
discussion lists across the internet, as we speak.
As the experts and academics dispute each other’s statistics, I
think it would be of great importance for them to hear from the
real caregiving experts - family caregivers.
Please help shed some light on this important topic by sharing
your stories of what you are doing to achieve respite and how
respite has impacted your lives.
