FROM THE EDITOR'S PEN

From the first day we considered starting a magazine for
caregivers way back in ’94, I went out to find like-minded
people who could help us reach out to our fellow caregivers.
Since then I have found many such “Good Folks”, at first in my
own backyard and later across the nation who not only helped us
create the magazine and website, but have been a real support
system through my family’s caregiving. This is why I cringe when
a caregiver tells me that he or she can find no support and no
one understands what he or she are going through. I think so
strongly about reaching out for support that I wrote two
separate principles in the Fearless Caregiver Manifesto about
reaching out for support.
“I will fearlessly seek out other
caregivers or care organizations and join an appropriate
support group; I realize that there is strength in numbers
and will not isolate myself from those who are also caring
for their loved ones.” …And… “I will fearlessly
develop a personal support system of friends and family and
remember that others also love my loved one and are willing
to help if I let them know what they can do to support my
caregiving.”
My wish for you is that you are
surrounded by all the support, love and compassion you need
as you celebrate the upcoming holiday season.
Happy Easter and Passover to you and your
loved ones.
