I think there has never been a more aptly named
holiday for family caregivers than Thanks
Giving. Oh, I know that there are traditional
theories behind the holiday, the Pilgrims,
turkey, stuffing and all that. But I am taken
with the fact that the name of the holiday
details everything I think about caregivers: Thanks for Giving so much for your loved
ones, friends and community.
Thanks for Giving your time, energy, heart and
dedication for those who are in need.
Thanks for Giving a face to all that is right
with this world.
Thanks for Giving so very much so often.
And finally, something that I hope one day to be
able to say to all caregivers: Thanks for
Giving yourself the regular respite break that
you so richly deserve whenever you need it.
Oh yes and Happy Turkey Day!
