According to the National Sanitary Institute, there was a
striking 15% decrease in admissions of patients with myocardial
infarction to emergency wards since the public ban on smoking
came into effect in restaurants, hotels and casinos in France
last January. Similar results were published in Italy by the
Environmental Health Authority and researchers in Rome found an
11.2 percent reduction of acute coronary events since the
January 2005 smoking ban took effect in Italy.
This is truly not a diatribe on the ill effects of smoking
(although if you'd like one, I would most emphatically oblige),
I was just struck once again by the ever constant value of the
concept of cause and effect.
Let's see, you stop smoking and heart disease goes down, you
maintain an appropriate exercise program and you are more able
to deal with the pressures of caring for your loved one, you go
to support groups and you stay healthy longer and are less
stressed.
Cause and Effect, now there's a law I can get behind.
I think I'll have a salad today.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow in Miami and at the
10th anniversary Fearless Caregiver event in Ft. Lauderdale in
May.
Take care
