Well, the champagne has hit the bow and the
2007 Fearless Caregiver Conference tour was officially launched
this past week in Miami, Florida. This marks the first event to
be held in the city in which Today’s Caregiver magazine, caregiver.com (and I) were all born.
The ship metaphor is
fitting due to the fact that the event was held at the Parrot
Jungle conference facility, overlooking the Port of Miami. And
what a send off it was with over 400 folks in the room including
Dr. Douglas Beach, Florida’s new Secretary of Elder Affairs; Mr.
Frank Burns, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Administration
on Aging and the sister of the Mayor of Dade County who
presented a proclamation stating that date as being “Fearless
Caregiver Day” in the County.
Most
important of all is the fact that as the attendees got to ask
questions of a renowned panel of caregiving experts and of these
government leaders, the point became clear that not only were
they caregiving experts, but were also family caregivers
themselves with all of the same concerns as their fellow
caregivers. Which brings
me to the point of today’s missive, don’t be surprised if the
doctor, nurse, pharmacist, or even government official who has
just given you their expert opinion or advice, doesn’t also stay
up at night, worrying if they are doing everything they can for
their own loved one. Hopefully that fact makes them work all
that much harder to help you find the solutions to your
caregiving challenges.
We are also extremely proud to announce the launch
of
Today’s Caregiver magazine – Philadelphia. We are looking
forward to supporting the work of family and professional
caregivers in the City of Brotherly Love.
