Can cycling cause knee injury?

CYLCLING AND RUNNING KNEE INJURY

I have been running for the past 25 years about 15 miles per week, mostly on a treadmill. Recently I started riding a bicycle to work. Unfortunately, I have also started having knee pain that seems like illotibial band syndrome with pain on the outside of my right knee. Can bike riding cause this? What should I do?
