My father was diagnosed with cancer in October 2010. He spent two
months in a hospital and one week in rehab to be able to walk again. I
live across town, so he mainly depends on my mother and brother to be
his caregivers. There is so much tension in the home among the three of
them that I fear that he cannot heal. What do you do when you feel the
caregivers are burned out?

With that much tension, it's not a good environment for any of them. If possible, give them the day off, even if it means having an aide come in to help. There are also relaxation DVDs available that could help them all just breathe.

When I felt "burned out" all I was wishing for was to have someone here to take care of my loved one while I caught a 'breather'. Maybe your mom and brother need something else to help them rejuvenate themself. Ask them or give them some free time so they can think for themselves.
