My mother lives in Oregon. She is 70 years old and takes care of my
brother, who is 50 and totally disabled. She has tried to go to college
and update her education and has tried to keep a job, but my brother
cannot be left alone for more than an hour or so at a time. As a result,
it has become an extreme financial burden. My brother gets disability,
but it isn’t much.
Is there any program that can give her aid as
a caregiver of an adult disabled child?

If your brother qualifies for Medicaid, your mother should be able to get paid to care for him. Here is a link for more information.

Your mother needs to check with her local area agency on aging or department of human services to find out about programs for adults under 65 with physical disabilities. Your brother would likely qualify income-wise to receive aid in the home through a state program. This would provide respite for your mother and allow her the time to go to school or work, knowing someone is at home caring for your brother.
