My husband had a stroke seven weeks ago. He cannot speak. He can move
around, but he sleeps all the time and will not eat. He has been on an
anti-depressant for a week and I am seeing an improvement. However, he
is so forgetful, he cannot remember to even wash his hands. I am not
sure of the damage he has suffered. We are poor and on Medicaid.
Trust me, there is no hope through that! I am trying to do what I can
and cannot find ANY support group in my area. My husband is 53 years old
and he acts more like a five-year-old. HELP ME, PLEASE.

I tried to look for a support group a few years back (my wife had strokes 7 years ago) but couldn't find a 'suitable' one. I was being too picky. I wanted to have a group that had similarities to my situation. I couldn't find such a support group but when I let my criterion widen, I was surprised that, not only did I find a great group but even though our situations were different, we had many similar experiences. I was able to share and compare notes. See if you can find a support group for caregivers of dementia or even elderly parents. You may find there are many things that you will have in common.
