Now I live in Japan. I'm going to receive a
kidney transplant in Iowa City. When a donor
is found, I expect to move to Iowa City from
San Francisco. (I'm planning everything
now.)
After the transplant, I will need a
caregiver (not a medical nurse) for
housework, cooking, driving and shopping.
I'm Japanese, so I don't know your U.S.
caregiver system. I would appreciate it if
you could teach me how to find a caregiver.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you
soon. Thank you in advance.

Home Instead Senior Care specializes in Non-Medical Home Care, currently with over 800 offices, world-wide. The standard of care is the same, whether in Canada, Spain, New York, etc. Our CAREGivers are carefully screened, undergo a thorough background check, complete classroom, independent study and return demonstration training, as well as ongoing education and training. They are covered by a Surety Bond and Worker's Compensation. CAREGivers are company employees, therefore all payroll deductions are processed by Home Instead Senior Care. Please see our website: www.HomeInstead.com for office locations, services provided and additional resources you, your family and friends may benefit from. Additionally, you can go to Caregiverstress.com, click on "Educational Videos", scroll down to "How to Select an In Home Care Provider", this is a 5 part video series I'm sure you'll find very helpful. While still in Japan, please contact your local Home Instead Senior Care office. They will put you in touch with the Home Instead Senior Care office in Iowa City, in the event you'd like a CAREGiver with you in the hospital, or short term, prior to move to San Francisco. Additionally, the Iowa City Home Instead Senior Care office can assist you with contacting the San Francisco Home Instead Office.

You can call the Area Agency on Aging for the local Caregiver Support Services and they can assist you. Or check your phone directory for Homecare service agencies. It is best to contrct with an agency. They have done the necessary back ground checks. They also employee many homecare assistance so if yours is ill they can send a substitute worker for you.
