My entire family including myself are burned out. We desperately
need help and are seeking for caregiver who live in the city of Whittier
CA..
We are going on our 5th year being the caregivers to my sister
(little sister) on an ongoing monthly calendar. Can anyone provide us
with some guidance ?

Check with your local Medicaid office. Each state should have some type of Medicaid wavier program that you can apply for. The program pays for sitter services and some other benefits. Since you did not say how old your sister is, or is she is mentally challenged, I can't name a specific waiver but know that there are many waivers out there with different waiting periods. If she is mentally retarded check with your local office for citizens with developmental disabilities. Also depending on age/circumstances contact your local council on aging to see if y'all qualify for services such as respite, homemaker, meals on wheels etc. Note that many nursing homes will take a patient for up to a 30 family respite period if y'all are desparate for a break. Hope this helps.

You don't say how old is your little sister or what is her problem.if she is in school best bet to recommend you to to agencies would be the school nurse. If she is an adult ask your docter,if she is special needs call your local Regional Center for the Developmentally Disabled

My husband and I have been caregivers for 18 years to our daughter who is mentally and physically challenged. While I can't help you find a caregiver in California, we can offer you a little support. We know how exhausting it can be in every way - socially, financially, emotionally, etc. Please visit http://tinyurl.com/25jh333 and join our online support group. You can also visit www.theheartofthecaregiver.com. What you are doing for your sister is more precious than gold. Don't give up. Some wonderful things can come out of this! Mary
