I have been desperately trying to find
information and I am hoping you can help. I
recently moved my father in with me due to
his health. I work as does my husband but we
are finding it extremely difficult caring
for him full time. I need to be here for
him 24/7 but need my income. Is there any
programs that would subsidize my income if I
was to quit my job to care for my father. I
will not send him to a home but he needs
constant care. Thank you so much.

Is your father a veteran? If so, he may be elligible for the VA's Aid and Assistance Pension. This pension provides funds to care for the veteran, either at home or at an assisted living facility, etc.
Contact your local VA to inquiry.

Could he read to children? or just be with them? One of my fondest childhood memories is of my grandmother's neighbour Mrs. Perkins who had several strokes, was wheelchair bound. She allowed us into her home and read to us for hours. My grandmother didn't speak English so listening to Mrs. Perkins read was a real treat. She also always had puzzles set out on her dining room table that we could work on. She gave the best tips on how to "do" a puzzle. She was a lifesaver for us and for my grandmother.

If your relative was a vet, there is a program called Aid & Attendance, that pays for a caregiver, even if a relative. I'm trying to get it cause I have same issue. But, the VA is not very helpful or forthcoming and it's complicated. There are forums/discussions on the web about it and some help and guidance. You can google it. If not, most states do have an Elder help line to contact. For me, it's all been confusing and a disapointment that VA hardly helps. But people do get the help. Hope th is helps.
