I just saw your website and it is very
interesting and positive.
However, there are instances where the
caregiver is not doing those things that she
should.
What advice do you have for removing a
caregiver or at least regulating how she
provides this support.

Would it be possible for him to volunteer at a senior citizens center, or perhaps at the local hospital. I know at our local hospital they have a crew of senior citizens that sit at the information desk and answer general questions, etc. This might be a way for him to get out of the house, offer assistance and in turn feel a sense of accomplishment.

Maybe you could interest him in birdwatching! A pair of binoculars and a bird identification book is enough to get started. Add a bird feeder station! Otherwise, he can set & clear the table for meals, get the laundry from hamper to washer/dryer & back, answer the phone, do some of the dusting, put away the groceries, etc. Does he have a computer? He could go to the local senior center for lunch & activities. There are so many things he could be doing! Just break down the normal chores into pieces that he can do!

This is for the gentleman who sits in front of the window all day long. Is there anyway of getting him outside for a "walk" in his "wheelchair"?. How about taking him down to a senior center. There should be a volunteer bureau in your town where people around his age could come in a talk about the old days. If he is a veteran call the VFW and see if someone can come talk with him. Get him involved. Take him out to lunch. It sounds like he is in a depression. Check with his doctor to see if medication can help. Teach him the computer especially ones for handicap people. I hope this helps you.
