An
Interview with Debbie Reynolds
Legendary star
of stage and screen
Debbie Reynolds has
been enchanting
audiences in
unforgettable
performances for
decades. From
Singing in the Rain,
Tammy and The
Unsinkable Molly
Brown to the TV
series Will and
Grace, Debbie has
brought joy to
generations of fans.
Gary Barg: You have a unique approach to talking
about caregiving. Can you tell me a little about that?
Debbie Reynolds: I try to get the point across
without being too dead-serious, because it is such a difficult subject.
It’s life and life is not a bowl of cherries; because if it were, why am I
feeling in the pits? My family has a history of longevity; my mom lived to
be 82 and my daddy, 83. We all have caregiving situations. Every
generation has to take care of the next generation, or not and not care at
all. I don’t think that it’s “we” as a people who feel this way, because
most of us want to take care of our loved ones. Not everybody gets to live
well towards the end; and because people are living longer, you either
have to take them into your home or find a place for them. This type of
decision-making can either be life threatening or life making...continued

When MS Means Mighty Stubborn
|
|
By Cheryl Ellis, Staff
Writer
“I’m glad my MS isn’t too bad. My
life is too busy to have it interfere!”
These words could be uttered by many individuals with
MS, regardless of how severe the affliction has become
in their lives. Caregivers may shrink in horror whenever
they are said, dreading the inevitable outcome of an
event preceded by this statement...continued

The Three Ringed Binder
That Saved my Family's Sanity
By Beth Christiansen
|
|
A notebook was one of the biggest
sanity-saving tools my husband and I used when we were
caring for our medically fragile son, Sullivan. It was a
simple three-ring binder that I put together which held all
the important information about our son’s life and the
schedules we kept. This notebook went with us to every
doctor appointment, hospital stay and outing....continued

Carenotes

I am a caregiver to a young woman who has chronic
migraines, focal, petit and grand mal seizures, along with a
traumatic brain injury.
She enjoys traveling and some
places we go tell us they can't legally charge me since I am
a medical aide, yet others insist on charging for me to be
there. I was wondering if you could tell me what is
appropriate in this situation and how we should respond.
Thank you for taking time to help. E
