Next week we will be hosting our 9th annual New Haven Fearless Caregiver Conference and on November 9th, we will hold our second ever Tampa Fearless Caregiver Conference.
With the entire digital world at our disposal—by the way, the Best Practices: Incontinence Care Webinar is now hosted on caregiver.com—and the not so fun aspects of traveling these days (doing the TSA Tango, ever shrinking leg room, and let’s not talk about the food!), I am occasionally asked why we still host the live events. The answer is: that’s where the wisdom is.

In over 110 events, I have never seen one where the wisdom was not flowing from the family and professional caregivers in attendance.  In fact, this space in last week’s newsletter was entirely about wisdom that was shared by an attendee at an event a few days earlier...continued

From Karen in Michigan My dad was getting urine all over the house. He'd be peeing on the way to the bathroom, then walk through the puddles and track it all over. I put him in disposable underwear and it has helped a lot. He says they're comfortable and they wear just like regular underwear. They even come in colors now. No more puddles and mopping the floor four to five times a day makes my life a lot easier. From Katy in Kentucky I have been taking care of my mother for 10 years. She is paralyzed with MS. She is in bed 90 percent of the time. She has a second-tier air mattress and does not get any skin breakdown. The key to preventing bedsores is to have an alternating pressure airbed. I get her on a portable toilet twice a day; she wears a catheter for urine. I try to get her in her wheelchair at least once a week; but she is very weak, so she only sits for about 30 minutes. I keep her bed elevated most of the day. I feed her in bed because it is easier for her. She also has dysphagia, so eats pureed foods and thickened liquids.
