The Poison Bill

I have utilized the poison control center for such varied loved ones as my grandfather and my puppy.  I consulted them about my grandfather due to ingesting medications prescribed for his wife and my puppy when he sampled the pesticides newly applied to the lawn.  I also know that the incidence for senior poisoning is up 30 percent in recent years and access to poison control is of the greatest importance to those raising small children. Not to mention the hospital professionals who rely on the poison control centers for timely advice almost every day. 

In 2009, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, unintentional poisoning caused about 708,318 emergency room visits.  So, you would think every effort would be made to retain adequate funding to support the lifesaving services provided by our poison control system...continued

Sharing Wisdom - Caregiver Tips
From Steven in Fort Myers, FL Since I put my 81-year-old wife on a low carbohydrate/gluten free diet, her cognition has improved, she is calmer, does not have temper tantrums, is happier and even her eyesight is better! After six months, she sees better without the glasses she wore for years! Eliminate wheat, barley, rye flour foods (bread, pasta, pizza, pie crust, cake, etc). Oats cause inflammation, so her arthritis is much better without it! Drinking lots of filtered water with a splash of juice for flavor cuts out a lot of sugar. Stay on a low fat, low cholesterol diet in addition. Egg yolk is where the cholesterol is; the whites are healthy, my cardiologist says. From Christy in WA If you are having trouble getting your loved one with dementia to shower, try giving limited choices such as, "Would you like your shower before or after lunch?" Sometimes people can have irrational fears, such as the sound of the water being scary or fear of sliding down the drain. If that's the case, a sponge bath or putting a towel over the drain might help her to accept washing up. For dental care or hand washing, maybe saying, "Let's brush our teeth" or "Let's wash our hands" and doing the same task for yourself alongside her will work.
