Living Separate Lives "Together" |
When advanced care means living apart

Scooters. Just the name alone makes you feel sporty, zipping along
from here to there to get the job done. That they’re often used by
those whose mobility is otherwise limited is a sobering reality

A Call to Action:
Caregivers to Fight for Consumer Directed Care
|
|
By Gema G. Hernandez, D.P.A.
|
|
Caregivers are the backbone of
this society and as such, the
country must begin to honor and
support their needs and desires.
Without caregivers willing to
give up their personal lives to
keep their loved ones at home,
the economic crisis our country
is presently facing will be much
worse and the Medicaid deficit
may reach a trillion dollar
amount within the year. ...Continued

Caregiving 101
|
By
Michael Plontz

A family member has just been diagnosed with
an illness that will eventually require
round-the-clock care. Of course you want to be
the one giving that care. This decision is
usually made without hesitation; of course we
want to be our loved one’s caregiver.

(NOTE: THE CARENOTE FROM LAST
WEEK'S NEWSLETTER IS BEING REPEATED
AS DIFFICULTIES WERE EXPERIENCIED
WITH THE FORM)
I am the caregiver for my brother.
He will soon be 69 and he has
Medicare and insurance from his
retirement, but neither will pay
anything toward the cost of
incontinence supplies. He is not
eligible for Medicaid. After we pay
bills and buy food , we have no
money for anything else. He has
diabetes, dementia, and he has had
two strokes. Now he has developed
this severe incontinence problem of
the kidneys and the bowels. It is
extremely difficult to keep him
clean . If there are any resources
available that will help fund these
products, I would certainly
appreciate the information.
Thank you.
