I am writing this column in a hotel room in Port St. Lucie, Florida
the night before our second annual Treasure
Coast Fearless Caregiver conference. If this
event is anything like the previous 72 events we
have held to date, there will be a lot of
heartfelt conversation regarding long term care
placement. Caregivers will be sharing their
innermost feelings on the subject, regardless of
if they are not considering placement,
conflicted about long term care placement or
even their ongoing caregiving role if his or her
loved one is presently living in a long term
care facility. With this in mind, I am extremely
grateful to Joanne, the author of the
letter
which I shared with you two weeks ago.
And in
typical (and wonderful) form, you responded with
your honest and deep felt comments:
I wanted to
tell you that I read your article from the
reader who was telling about how she "popped in"
at the nursing home at all different times of
the day and so forth, to check on her husband…Continued
My grandmother was
in a care home for 10 months, we were her
advocate, like Joanne said most of the aides
were kind hearted but way over worked...Continued
A word of appreciation for this article. I will
pass it on to all my caregivers. We are a
new Adult Day Care program and the next move for
most our caregivers is to place their family
members…Continued
Sharing your wisdom whether online, in print or
in person, now
that’s what successful caregiving is all about.
Take care

A Family's Journey of Caregiving
|
|
By
Sr. Marie Clark
|
|
Thirty years ago there were very
little supports, services or options available for families caring
for their older loved ones in the United States. Since that time,
our nation has made great strides in helping caregivers provide the
assistance they need to keep their family members living at home in
the community among their families and friends....Continued

I think our daughter may be a
Manic-depressive, and we are in
the process of figuring it all
out. I have read quite a
bit but am confused as I am not
sure if there is a
difference between Bipolar and
Manic-depressive. Is there
or is it the same thing?
