November is National Family
Caregivers Month, National Alzheimer’s Month,
National Lung Cancer Awareness month and National
Diabetes Awareness Month. November is also the
beginning of the fourteenth year of caregiver.com. When this web community was created in 1995,
it was among only 18 thousand websites online. Now
there are over 100 million. Back then, it was not clear what role the
world-wide-web would play in all of our lives, but
we knew that somehow, it would become a valuable
tool for family caregivers. That concept was confirmed in our first
online chat (a remarkable event in 1995,) that
brought together an Alzheimer’s caregiver from
Indiana, a stroke caregiver from Los Angeles and
most memorably, a teenager just diagnosed with
diabetes who wanted to share his concerns with
people who would understand what he was going
through.
Since those early days a lot
has changed. We have had four major renovations to
our online home, added an expanded local section,
created the largest directory of caregiver support
groups, launched an active newsletter and featured
digital interviews with caregiving experts and
celebrities. We are also proud to announce that
caregiver.com hosts the
digital version of our national print
magazine, Today’s Caregiver, which is another first
in the industry. Yet, with all of the changes and improvements
to caregiver.com over the years, the one thing that
has remained a constant is that nothing is more
important to this web community than you. We remain committed to doing everything we
can to create community, hands-on advice and support
for family and professional caregivers. And that will never change.
Take care

I take care
of my 96 yr Mom and lately she
is getting sores on her very
thin bottom as she sits all day.
Lately she is losing fluid
mobility in her legs. I am
massaging her legs and giving
her more water. The sores I
treat with iodine and petroleum
jelly. Treat one another pops
ups. Would you have any
suggestions? I am trying not to
lose hope. I don't want to lose
my Mom. I have been working so
hard to help her.
Thank
you
